Although this helmet is really good and well made, the dimensions are far from it. At 5 years old, the son wears a youth environment, he has 2 other helmets that fit well, probably another year. Got this medium sized helmet, took all the measurements and it wasn't even close. I bought a medium and he got a headache and screamed trying to get off. So without waiting I bought another one before getting a refund for this 1 and ordered the big one which was even tighter. If someone else has returned the label inside, then this happens all the time. So now I've lost $300 while waiting for a refund and none of the helmets fit my son. If you call the company, the answers may change. When you spend $160 on a large helmet for a 5 year old that doesn't fit. You don't need to change the padding, it should match the size chart provided. I would recommend going to local motorsport stores and not buying online, especially this brand's helmet.
