We bought a small rug for our hallway which our two feral kittens were immediately drawn to and started scratching. Punishment and injections didn't seem to stop her. The carpet was too tempting (especially since the texture resembles a nearby scratching post). First we sprayed the Cat Guard Pro carpet and then set it up at home so we could watch. The cats came, sniffed and went. It didn't repel them too much, but they stopped stepping on the carpet and scratching it. After some more testing and finding the spray lasted about 3 weeks before needing to be reapplied, we were able to exit the carpet with no problems. You just avoid it. It doesn't overwhelm the entire space; You will walk around it. As with most cat behavior products, whether or not it works for you is random or not. We were very surprised how well this works for us. It's a little pricey but worth it to keep our new carpet. The "Original" taste resembles a spicy, slightly lemony potpourri. It's fairly strong for a day or so after use, but not overly obnoxious or offensive. After a few days, it becomes invisible to humans. (YMMV when applied to a larger area or space.)
