Have you ever thought that you "embroider" as much as you sew? Some days I definitely do! face the truth Sometimes all you need to do is select the stitches, be it seams, quilt stitches or embroidery. To avoid accidentally cutting through the grain of the background material, you'll need a good seam ripper, good lighting, and magnification if possible. This little seam ripper has all of those qualities and works really well. In the past I've used a Mighty Bright Ripper with a light and magnifying glass. It was my favorite but the seam ripper became dull. When I couldn't find it locally (or in Revain), I tried filing the edges of the ripper and pointing to re-sharpening it because I've used it a lot. Sawing helped only minimally. I'm actually glad I tried the OttLite seam ripper because it's better in so many ways. With the OttLite seam ripper, the zoom range (2 inches) goes right to the edge, unlike the Mighty Bright which has a 1.25 inch lens with an aperture around it. The light switch on my original ripper was a ribbed thumb slider on the handle that was often difficult to slide, while the OtLite ripper has a raised switch on the top handle that's easy to use. The overall length of the OttLite ripper is 7 inches and the seam of the ripper arm (not including the ripper itself) is 3.75 inches long. which is longer and more usable than the 5" 2.25" Mighty Bright Arm. First, I don't like the seam ripper because the arm end of the seam ripper doesn't allow the working end of the seam ripper to rotate 360 degrees to cut stitches. This made the ripper awkward to use and I had to rotate my wrists at odd angles to line up the stitching and ripper. When I decided I hated this new ripper, I fiddled with it a bit and got it spinning (a bit of brute force) and now it works great. The metal part of the ripper is a pretty standard type, but it's thin and sharp enough to easily slide even under small stitches and cut the thread. the ripper arm was longer so the metal part of the seam ripper was more in the middle of the loupe but I can handle that. NOTE TO USER: If you have never used one of these "articulated" rippers before, give yourself plenty of time to try it out as it takes some getting used to as the handle of the lighted magnifying glass and the arm of the seam ripper move independently move . (It might seem like you're petting your head and rubbing your tummy at the same time, but like this new little tool, you can do it if you practice first.) Also, like I said, the metal end of the ripper arm should be everything turn around, vice versa. If yours doesn't fit right away, do it! Then it works as it should. I hope this helped. Good luck "embroidery"! (It may seem like you're petting your head and rubbing your tummy at the same time, but just like this new little tool, you can do this if you practice first.) As I said before, the metal end of the ripper arm should come out completely turn. If yours doesn't fit right away, do it! Then it works as it should. I hope this helped. Good luck "embroidery"!
