Below are our results after 2 days of testing this watch. 3 star rating so far based on the pros and cons listed below. To be honest, I don't know if some of the disadvantages listed are due to watches or GPS/cellular networks. In general, the watch is very comfortable, but the accuracy of the location, the stability of the application and the associated safety for the caregivers are crucial. Pros: - Nice looking "teen" watch, not too childish - Easy to use app - Easy to set up - - Waterproof (IP68), while other watches are often IP67 or less - Easy to use voice and text messaging between the app and the watch - Safezone / geofencing function - The watch comes with a screen protector (I understand the screen is easily scratched). Parental concerns, so a screen protector is probably good) - The alarm clock on the watch (also) works well, the guardians' phones will play a strong emergency siren if the child activates the SOS function - Up to 50 approved contacts can use the let the clock ring. The watch can only call these numbers. - Nice school mode function (do not disturb) that can be set in Guardian app (do not disturb at school, at night, etc.) - Calendar/events function to set reminders. Cons: - I'm not yet sure how useful the safe zone feature is as the GPS position isn't always accurate (which is a big problem). The app will then show the child outside the safe area for a few minutes. When the GPS location cannot be pinpointed (inside the house and sometimes outside), I sometimes see my child 2 miles away in another city when they should be several hundred meters away instead. GPS doesn't always work well, I don't know if the location accuracy depends on the watch (tiny antenna in the watch compared to the antenna in the phone?) or the chipset's location/positioning capabilities, or insufficient cellular support. Towers in the area or something like that.- The app is not stable on Android, a guard was regularly kicked out of the app, more than once a day (the app seems to be more stable on iOS/iPhone so far). The app also sometimes displays a "network unavailable" message when another guardian on the same network can still access the watch's location and GPS messages? - Unsafe features/vulnerabilities: On the watch, a child can access (and therefore change) the APN and Wi-Fi settings, as well as turn off the device, all without notifying the guardian, or better yet, without permission from a guardian. We'll test this some more, but we've found that if 2 guardians access the watch's GPS location at the same time, it will likely result in 1 guardian being kicked out of the app and a "network unavailable" message or even just stops receiving updates on the watch not knowing the connection seems to be unreachable - not clear what the encryption protocols are to compare multiple kids smartwatches and understand what security protocols are followed (as far as I understand , this is partly the case for security, however a case study has shown that some watches are vulnerable to hacking, so the combination of these features is important!) that will be released for other Xplora watches, but not for X5 E-sim . - The watch seems to work fine with a US T-Mobile Connect SIM card ($15/month if you are not a T-Mobile customer with a different T-Mobile line). However, location accuracy is an issue as per the notes above.
