I bought this for white shirts but as I hate washing I never had time to use it for that purpose. Yes, I've occasionally added a cup of the powder to some laundry loads, but I've never noticed any whitening effect from using it as a pre-wash additive. I think I'm wasting money on this kind of usage so I just stopped. I have yet to try this as a soak and I have a feeling it will work. However, I used it as a dish soap. I live in an apartment with a white kitchen sink. I hate this. I cook asian food all the time and make kimchi so after 2 weeks my kitchen sink gets orange stains and the occasional color stain. Even cleaning doesn't remove them. Once a month I put on gloves, make a paste out of this powder and smear it on the sink. I'm leaving for an hour. (DON'T FORGET THE GLOVES! It will ruin your skin.) I come back with gloves, grab a small rag, rub them a little and rinse them out. Presto, instant, pristine, lustrous white skin. It is IDEAL for this use. I was thrilled when I found out about it because I've tried vinegar, I've tried baking soda, I've tried every imaginable substance known to man. But to remove paint stains from a white kitchen sink, a powder is enough. Tip: Don't just pour the powder on a dry sink, it will never work as the product will never activate. It must be wet. But not through, so it just flows down the drain. Therefore, the pasty consistency is crucial. You don't have to cover the entire sink in an inch of paste for it to work. Just a light brushing with a gloved hand is enough and will save you money in the long run. I will definitely buy it again, even just for that purpose. It also works safely on white grout, tables and other surfaces that have absorbent properties.
