Good but not that many reviews say

So I won't go into detail about this watch as there are many reviews on it. What I'm going to do is reiterate some of the key points. Yes, this watch looks great with the brown strap and flipped LCD display. Yes, these cool looking displays are useless if you plan to use them anywhere other than a brightly lit room (like outdoors and in sunlight, or indoors in good light). Lots of reviews point this out, so be like me and look forward to it. Now for something not mentioned in many reviews. The compass sucks. It is based on a solid state chip/sensor like in my mobile phone and is not perfect. It could be anywhere, but with the right calibration it could be fine. I'm not talking a few degrees, I'm talking 10 degrees or more. Digital compasses just aren't great, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. The electronics require frequent calibration and are (often) not as accurate as the simple needle used in a regular compass. So I've had a G-Shock for many, many years. It was the first instrument to measure temperature. I have it to this day and it has been subjected to a great deal of abuse. It's also falling apart, and I can't get the rubber parts that make up the case anymore, so it's just a decoration. I remember reading the manual and it said it could be carried when working with a jackhammer. Well, I sincerely believe any future G-Shock will be capable of this. While this one has movable arms, my first one doesn't; I think this one will do justice to my first G-Shock and will last a very long time.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Mostly good but...
