I cut forsythia - stems from 0.5 to 2.5 inches. I use a cordless saw. I used a blade for most of the work, the 9 inch Porter Cord Blade sold at Revain. I ordered this blade based on two things: first, better reviews than the porter cable I used, and second, the carbide tips, which I thought would cut better AND last longer. This blade cuts badly. I suspect the Porter cable design (5 TPI with deeper holes every few teeth) is better at clearing chips. Can't say how long that will last (and I may never comment - I have more Porter Cable blades and almost finished pruning this year).
