The floral fabric is thicker in this area which is normal as it has an extra strap to keep it secure on the head as it goes through the ears to the head. at the back of the head and you tie it to keep it from slipping off, however I have to tie mine more loosely because I have a sensitive head and it hurts a little when you tie it tight after wearing it for a long time. Also, it's beautiful and I like a very long piece.
