Review on 🔧 Westin 27-1265 Stepboard Mounting Kit by Joshua Talbot

I installed a pair of Westin tubes almost 10 years ago. After they rusted I got an aluminum post and this mounting kit. Possibly the worst guide I've ever seen. Seriously how difficult it is to write a decent guide. I could take 10 minutes and write a better guide. After you finish a page you will understand. The worst violation is that the braces are not designed to fit properly. The bracket bends the bottom edge of the sheet metal as you tighten the screws. It should have been a 90 degree angle, but it's about 80 degrees, so there's stress on the thin metal. The screws are barely sufficient for threading due to an incorrectly designed bracket. Once you finally put threads on it, it starts bending the metal. As with the other poster mentioned, the self tapping screws are barely long enough and you have to be very careful when drilling and set the handle on the drill bit low so you don't drill the hole all the way like I did in my first hole. I'm not sure if he can handle it. I can weld the brackets if they come loose. I don't like drilling holes in my truck. There are many factory holes and options that should be used. I wish I had gone with a different option/brand. With worn metal and questionable screws, I don't know how long this will last. I'm pretty sure I'll have to weld them on at some point unless I just rip them off and start with another brand. This is a 2001 F150 Supercrew.
