Review on Legged Thing LV CL Lever Release by Janett Schweizer

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A good option if you are looking for a lever clamp.

I have used the old style Manfrotto lever clamp for many years. I switched to a Nikon Z6 as my main camera body and the plates always got in the way of the FTZ adapter when I needed it. There were no quick changes. I first tried the Acre style screw base and while the clamp itself worked well, it was slow as a bean. There seem to be very few flip clamps out there and most of them are insanely expensive for what they are. The three-legged suggestion seems like the best one to try. After a few weeks of use here are my thoughts on the pros - The fit and finish is comfortable. The lever is adjustable so it can be set tighter or tighter depending on your preference, or adjusted to fit different brands of inserts by adjusting the hex screw. The lever has a safety lock that prevents accidental opening. The lever can also be switched to either side according to the user's preference. Not too heavy - it actually feels like as much metal has been removed as it could have been. Another Amazon reviewer didn't like it, I didn't find it a problem. And it's orange, I like orange. Cons: I didn't know it was adjustable when I first used it and my lever was too tight so the orange anodizing wore off immediately. I expected this to happen eventually, but not after a few triggers. When writing this review I wanted to make sure that the parts are anodized and cannot be painted orange. In any case, the wear of the coating on this bearing surface was a little quicker than I wanted. While the lever tension adjustment is handy, I had to keep an eye on it as it loosened up a bit over time. I think it's a bit overpriced for what it is, but you get a plate with it. Finally, it would be nice if they engrave/print center marks like they did on the previous Equinox clamp they sold. In general, this base clamp should perform well throughout its lifetime. The above flaws are rather minor, but add up to a slight disadvantage in the overall standings.

Pros
  • The lever is equipped with a switch to prevent accidental unlocking.
Cons
  • I will be silent.
