Who wants to keep changing the size of the ball when they don't have to? You don't have to pay attention to the big wrench or extra ball sizes, just the clutch pin. If you're doubtful about a hook and expect to someday use a tow strap to get someone out of some mud or snow/ice, it works great and is worth an extra buck or two. I paid a high price compared to local facilities and made it an easy purchase. If you think about it, do it. You will not regret it. Mine is showing some signs of wear after some use. As it should. There's nothing crazy there. However, I don't use it every day and don't leave it in the hitch when not in use.
