Reese 7031400 Tri Ball Mount Hook Review

I bought this for my father who was stuck with a mower and needed to get it out. I didn't really think about why it has three ball hitches, just thought that with the hook it would be able to securely tie a rope to it. Each of the balloons is a different size. So if you rent and tow different trailers, I think that's fine. Later I saw one in the store, the things are well made and very heavy. If you don't need Tribol, buy something else.

Hole offset for 2 5/8” hook/ball and 2” and 1 7/8” balls. This means that one side fits my spacer perfectly, but the offset side requires rotating the spacer 180* or the hitch will not install. It sticks out like this (because the offset holes are further back) and when the hitch adapter is rotated there is a lot of play. Great concept but requires drilling holes to make it look and work like the picture.

Chrome balls and black base hook look great. This is Reese and is therefore expected to draw followers for sure. This is one of those items not to skimp on if you don't want to worry about towing a trailer. In order not to be stingy, this product is actually very cheap. Having every ball and even every hook in the same spot is extremely convenient as I don't have to swim around multiple rod and ball combinations for different sized pendants. Who wants to keep changing the size of the ball when they don't have to? You don't have to pay attention to the big wrench or extra ball sizes, just the clutch pin. If you're doubtful about a hook and expect to someday use a tow strap to get someone out of some mud or snow/ice, it works great and is worth an extra buck or two. The holes for the hitch pin were off center and the hitch pin did not go through the bracket on either side. The holes look punched, not drilled. All seams have spatter. It looked like it had been sprayed. Not what I expected from a quality mount. You get what you pay for. I expected a quality product to be way more expensive and I was right. The mount comes in a barely fitting box with no ball/hook protection. Due to its weight, it tears open the box during transport. The first one I ordered arrived torn/damaged/rusted. Realized it was a mistake and ordered a replacement. Revain was great on return, no problem. The second came in worse condition than the first; Packaging torn, dents/dents/corrosion. This thing seems solid but the one I received looked a little different than the one in the photo, mainly the pin holes for using the hook/big ball are much further down the stem ( towards the ball). where in the picture they look almost the same. This is a problem for me because on my pickup coupler the maximum distance from the non-ball end of the shaft to the center of the pinhole is 3.25 inches. is 2.5 inches from the end, the other set is 3.75 inches from the end. RUST in less than 2 weeks! Haven't used it for towing yet but wanted to confirm what others are posting here for rust reviews. You can see in the photo that it has already started to rust.
