To help me with a long delayed garage interior finish, I purchased this drill bit so I can drill holes in the 2x4 and 2x6 wall studs and frame the required 2-inches - Install PVC downspouts. for some sink installations. This bit is very well made and works great, but the standard 1/2" electric (wire) bits didn't have enough torque to hold the bit due to the speed at which the aggressively spiraling flutes are on the outside of the self feed Tip pulled the bit into the wood. It was also about as much as my old wrists could handle! :-( Since each drill bit comes with an extra feed tip, I solved the problem by using a grinder have to remove the tips of the spiral flutes so the tip still centers the bit in the hole being drilled but allows me to control the feed rate based on the amount of downward pressure. This bit is precision formed and ground and cuts a very clean hole even if the board is well seasoned and strong also the cast is strong enough so I believe that it could be re-sharpened at least once if needed Buy a heavy duty 3/4" electric hand drill due to the torque required and the resulting stress but both the drill bit and the person using it!
