Silver metal tip at the end of the umbrella

I took the umbrella out of the box and the silver metal tip at the end of the umbrella fell off. is that supposed to happen? There is no indication of this on the packaging. I'm trying to find out if it's ok before sending it back. why does it fall off if i can put my own rubber tip on the end of the umbrella, where can i buy the rubber tip? This should be stated on the packaging.
