We have expanded some of our classrooms and laboratories and needed new wash bottles. I was trying to save our department some money by purchasing these bottles which are cheaper than the Fisherbrand, VWR and Nalgene bottles we usually buy. Unfortunately, the hole at the top of the spout is very large. It is very prone to flooding your task or sample with the liquid you dispense. Each of our OLD bottles has a small pin-sized hole at the tapered tip of the spout. If we needed a higher flow rate, we could increase the flow by cutting off the tip and gradually increasing the amount along the cone. However, this is NOT the case with these new cheap bottles. While the tips of the spout are tapered, the opening is large from the start. If you only need to dispense a small amount of liquid at a time, these rinse bottles are NOT for you. You flood your sample or task with liquid. Then why not just compress less? Unfortunately, the large hole size results in very little drag. With a small opening, it would be much easier to modulate the power of your hand's grip, since the drag will help soften the grip's action. However, with less resistance, very small pressure fluctuations in compression can cause torrential flooding. It is very difficult to regulate the amount of liquid dispensed from these bottles. Your only options are LOTS of liquid or FLOW of liquid; Impossible to get the light output. The high flow rate of these bottles also led to a lot of wasted material in the laboratory. When using bubbler bottles to wash laboratory equipment, our old bottles released only a small amount of liquid at a time; A bottle of dishwashing liquid lasts more than two weeks with normal use. However, these new bottles were almost empty after only two days! You can tell students not to waste, but even with the best effort, if the only options are LOTS of liquid or FLOW LIQUID, you'll get a picture. Finally, there is a strange dregs on these bottles. I ordered two packs. The bottles in one packet were covered in a thin but sticky coating that we couldn't wash off. We used these bottles to wash dishes, so we're just living with that; without knowing what the residue is, we will not store any important liquids or solvents in it. We won't buy them again.
