Review on CJESLNA 2nd HDD Caddy for 12.7mm Universal CD/DVD-ROM - Optimize Your Search! by Israel Thurow

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Worth the money, I don't regret the purchase. but there is room for improvement.

I put 3/5. It works once you set everything up correctly and looks fine with a CD mount placed on it, but it's not perfect and those are the downsides. There are stickers on the caddy which should have instructions. However, I have found that they do not fit my caddy. The stickers show clips that are not in my shopping cart. Also, the stickers on mine don't point to the all-important 3-position switch. This caddy (and many other cheap CD caddies) has a 3 position switch in the hard drive bay next to the SATA connectors. This is very easy to overlook. This switch is important because your drive may not function properly if it is not set to the correct position. determined by trial and error. If it's in the wrong position, the computer might not find the hard drive, or the laptop might have LEDs that never turn off when you try to shut down the computer. I had to disable fast startup in Windows 10 to allow Windows to see my drive. Maybe changing the position of the switch again would fix the problem, but I haven't tried it. The caddy fits well in my laptop. It glides straight into the bay with little effort. It fits snugly in the hole so it doesn't have extra room to move or bounce. My laptop frame doesn't have screw holes that match the case dimensions, so friction holds it in place. However, because the cartridge fits so snugly in my CD slot, the laptop's SATA and power connectors provide enough friction that I don't have to worry about it coming loose and falling out. Big. However, you must be very careful when removing the front panel from the drive. If you damage the faceplate, it may not snap properly into the basket. Removing a cart is not an easy task. You should try to pull it out from the front of the CD (if you have one attached) and hope it doesn't come loose. If this is the case, you will need to slowly pry it out with a screwdriver. I've tried this on several 2.5" drives and 2 of them fit perfectly. However, one of these, a Kingston 120GB SSD, barely fit in and I worry that it may eventually damage the drive's SATA connectors. Overall I don't regret the purchase but I would be shocked if there wasn't something better.

Cons
  • Not satisfied with everything
