At first glance it seems to be a heavy and solid ladder. However, the quality of stainless steel only becomes apparent over time and the weather. My dock, like most, was built with a 2x10 perimeter and 2x6 or 2x4 cross members to support the dock's surface. In my case Trex. The problem with this ladder is that the holes in the rim that must be screwed into the dock to attach the ladder to the dock line up exactly with the 2x10 EDGE. Of course you can add another piece of wood, but the screw still fits between the two boards. I thought of raising the entire end of the dock by connecting this other 2x4 and then laying a flat piece of marine plywood on top. Then screw the rim on, but 1. it is still only screwed ½ or ¾. part and 2. the elevated part of the dock can present a tripping hazard. Enough of this detail. Basically, if your dock is built from 2xX lumber, this ladder is a problem. I've never seen a design with 4x4s, but that wouldn't be a problem. I didn't want to take the dock apart to fix the end of the frame to fit this ladder. Oh, and they don't supply more screws than they need. So if you lose something, very bad (this is much more likely when working with water. and it will always work with water). The instructions are as bad as all Chinese instructions, but easy to understand. The people who have complained that the railing ends are not flush with the rim at the top are absolutely right. This would be another problem with a ½ or 3/4 inch rise in level. As it was I stuck the railing feet in and screwed them on (I had to add a transom but that was ok). The way I played with the wood and did my best to get it installed on my dock is a shame. It looks good when covered in Trex, but I don't know how long it will last. I suppose it's just going to be someone falling in the water if it goes wrong. nobody will die. However, Trex and the underlying structure may need to be replaced if and when that happens. Bad situation. The only reason I didn't return it was because it's a narrow ladder and I had to set it up in a very narrow spot at the end of the dock.
