I've used them for transferring solids, thin liquids and syrups and they work well with all of them. Fits perfectly in my narrow neck bottles. The three funnel sizes are probably an exaggeration, but I like having multiple options so I can do more than one transfer at a time. I like the large size when I can't wait to do something like draining used oil. I haven't used strainer plugs yet; I like to put the coffee filter in the largest sieve for this application. As you can imagine, they are lightweight; This is completely normal for this application. It doesn't all have to be heavyweight. They're light but don't flex yet with normal use and for me they've stayed shiny. I wash them by hand; I think the dishwasher is better for heavier steel items. If you want them to last, hand wash them like anything else that can be washed in the dishwasher. Materials other than glass expand and contract repeatedly, which is exacerbated by the high temperature of the dishwasher's drying cycle.
