Review on Square Schneider Electric FSG2J24M4CP Pumptrol by George Bridgewater

Great product but be careful when first starting up

This is a replacement for an almost identical 40 year old switch with no low pressure shut off function. I didn't think it was necessary, but I decided to do it anyway. After installing it I turned it on, a process that requires you to pull the low pressure lever until the pump builds up enough pressure to stay on, in this case around 40psi. To my great dismay, there was a loud bang and sparks flew into the lid, triggering the switch. Although I checked the wiring three times, I kept checking it. Everything was exactly as it should be. I reset the switch and tried again. Mores fires a second time, but the circuit breaker does not work and the pump still does not turn on. I removed the cover and checked the box's power supply, 220v as it should be. I decided to pluck up my courage, removed the cover and tried to pull the lever very slowly and carefully. As soon as I moved it up the pump turned on, I held it still until the pressure rose to 40psi and the switch turned off at exactly 60psi. Looks like I just moved the switch too far which caused a short somewhere in the circuit. I've run it about half a dozen times and it works flawlessly. I'm deducting one star for the stress it caused me to figure it out. Verdict: This is a quality product with a quirky onboarding process. Don't be afraid to buy it, just remember to be very careful and gentle every time you flip the switch.
