This was the second time I have had to repair the tailgate handle on my 2003 Silverado. The first time I replaced the plastic clips connecting the wands to the outlet. This time the original handle broke as it was plastic. Hey, but it's been 17 years so I think it's about time. The replacement part was plastic, just like the original, but I was happy to see that it was attached to a metal base that would eventually be secured with three screws from the inside of the gate. It also came with clips which I originally replaced on a previous repair so that was a bonus. The bars snap into the clips but require little additional force to install. I didn't attach the plate with the three screws until the clips were in place. That gave me room to work. The whole assembly was very similar to the one I shot. It was a simple task that took about 15 minutes to complete.
