If they work, they're good

Buying recommendation: Try before you trust. I've had several instances where the light worked as a night light but not as an emergency light. When you first receive them, turn them on for 24 hours. Then disconnect them from the power supply. If they glow, you're good. If it doesn't, try pressing the side button, which toggles between bright wide light, dim wide light, flashlight, and off. If it still doesn't work, send it back. However, I bought a few of these, so maybe one in ten won't work. Update: more are coming back. Two of the last batches fail when disconnected from the grid. One doesn't light up at all (useless in the event of a power outage, of course) and the second lights up but shines like a flashlight and main light and refuses to turn off at all. I imagine it would be nice if that was all you had, but it definitely doesn't work as advertised. downgrade. These are emergency lights that emit diffused light at night, and one or two replace four or five small emergency lights. Also, they only occupy one outlet instead of separate night lights and emergency lights. The downside is that they're bulky and illuminate a large area rather than a focused spot. On the positive side, they can replace multiple emitters with one or two. Another update: I suspect the company only repackages devices that were returned because they weren't working properly, as the failure rate is now even higher. If I could I would put zero stars.
