I been practicing my oyster shucking skills and have bough numerous knives. This knife has enough of a point to get into the hinge and not stab yourself. The glove works great , when I decide to use it. The point and blade can also be used to open the oyster from the side with the hinge pointing up. I probably shucked about 1000 oysters so far. I pick up a dozen " Cuttyyunk" oysters each week I pass the fish market .
