I've used this on two trips. One had hard mud, the other rocky mud. What I love about this hammer is the pull hook, the flat end for prying or digging, the color, and the red loop for hanging items. All the good stuff that needs to be in a whirling hammer. The only criticism is the weight of the hammer head. It's great that everything is light, but when you need to pound into tougher dirt I need something heavier to ride this stake. Since my camping situations had dirt in which stakes were difficult to drive, it took me a very hard hit to knock them off, which it held up well against. If I had something heavier, like an ordinary hammer or ax, it would be easier. This should be a basic requirement for any hammer, so I only gave it a 3/5.
