Review on 🏞️ Leviton 4986-GY Gray Oversize Weather-Resistant Wallplate: Duplex Device Cover with Thermoplastic Design for Horizontal Device Mounting by Paul Weakland

My builder used them for outdoor work. Another reviewer here says that the lids take a lot of wear and tear when in use. I discovered this by breaking the cover while plugging the extension cord into the outlet. So enough for a builder, enough for me. I bought another one. I checked and couldn't figure out how to install this thing as the mounting screw is under the covers. My first thought is that the covers have to be removed to install. You don't! I was looking for an installation video and couldn't find it. Randomly browsing product reviews revealed that installation is accomplished by holding the covers with one hand and inserting the screw with the other. The covers are spring loaded which requires active action to keep them in place. They lift less than 90° and make sure they don't hit even the shortest screwdriver. All of this is quite difficult when working with a typical rig 18 to 24 inches off the ground as no one can see what it is doing. It was even difficult to photograph the thing after installation! Other than the above, I've never had any problems with a block short or anything like that. But the bottom line for me is something else to buy, even if it sticks out a few inches from the wall.
