We have been looking for bedside lamps for a long time and were a little hesitant to order them due to comments about heat dissipation. But we like the style and we dared. Installation was easy and quick. We tried the lights by leaving them on and away from anything that might affect the heat and nothing. They felt cool. I suspect that the previous posters used a bulb that was too large. We only have 40-watt bulbs, which are just right for soft lighting and reading on our Kindles. They state that you cannot use more than 60 watts. We are very happy with the looks and features.
