Great tool. We are made in the USA. Worth every penny if you need to change the grooves or slots in your tires. I used this to convert a set of Goodyear RV street tires (245/70r19.5) to an f450 all terrain tire. It's a significant amount of work to slit and re-cut a set of six tires (took about 30 minutes per tire), but it saved me an absurd $450 per Michelin mud and winter tire. Flap cutting is much faster than grooving. I'm not sure I would try grooving or grooving passenger tires where there are many tread options, but it works great on medium duty tires as the tread pattern choices are very limited. Keep that in mind if you intend to do the same as me and modify the template. The rubber compound plays a big role when it comes to traction, grooves and sipes do not change the compound itself. That is, if you need winter tires for your car. Buy winter tires. If special tires are not available for your wheel size, this is an option. The instrument itself is fantastic and I certainly wouldn't try that on a Chinese instrument. With six tires I only used 1 knife, there were several. Caution. Gets very hot but surprisingly doesn't produce much smoke or an awful smell. Very satisfied!
