I have been a commercial pilot for over 50 years. When I first started flying, headsets weren't common. We used an in-ceiling speaker and a handheld microphone. I've been using David Clarke headphones since the mid 1980's and my originals are still a replacement. DC completely restored it for me a few years ago at an attractive price. I am currently using DC One-X ENC. Make no mistake, this is not a quality replacement for my DC. BUT, it works very well, especially with ANR, which is the main reason I bought it. Both the mic and speakers are very clear in a loud single. It wasn't clear in the promotional description if the A28 could be used left or right, but I was happy that the boom mic pivots to allow for left-handed use as well as right-handed, just like the newer A7. Even after a 3 hour flight they were comfortable and didn't pinch. A headset pocket is a plus. Not the highest quality but gets the job done. This headset doesn't fold up as compactly as some others, so a larger case is required. If you're on a budget and want a good ANR headset, especially one that costs less than $300, this is a good option. I now prefer the right seat passenger headset to my old DC. At this price you can afford to outfit a 4 seater aircraft for the price of 1 Boese. What's not to like? Update: I just discovered that there is a bug in the high performance single on the sidewalk with the windows open that sounds like a loud hum in the propeller sequence. Apparently this is caused by the compression of the air in the cabin. Once the windows were closed, the problem went away. At first I thought the headset was the problem, but it worked as expected until the end of the flight when the windows were closed.
