Overall I have to say I'm happy with this product but it's definitely not perfect. I use it a little differently than most people, but I've run some pretty thorough tests so I can tell you how well it works. Let's start with the first question most people ask. NO, the mirror does not dim like the factory rearview mirror. The glass is slightly tinted to soften the glare of the headlights, but it doesn't darken. The LCD will dim automatically, so it's confusing for people. So to get things straight: mirror = no auto dimming LCD = auto dimming This camera has 2 video inputs which is great and perfect for my needs. I was planning to use it to replace the factory screen in the car as I have a Nexus 9 tablet installed instead of the factory screen. The dual video inputs have worked great for me as I can use one input for the factory screen so I can that can see HVAC settings, radio etc etc and another input for a factory rear view camera. DESIGN: This rearview mirror looks and feels like a true OEM factory mirror. So if you are looking for a discreet LCD monitor, this is definitely the one for you. The only thing it's missing is the Homelink garage door opener button (which I was a bit frustrated with). It also doesn't have auto-dimming mirrors, but I was aware of that. There is only 1 button that serves as power button and multifunction menu button. The mirror itself is slightly tinted, which helps with bright headlights. Night. FUNCTIONALITY: As I said, it has 2 video inputs. It automatically switches to the rear camera input when it detects a video signal. After approx. 5 seconds it switches back to the other input. It has a power button that allows you to turn off the screen. Just note that you have to press them every time you turn on the device if you never want to turn it on. This only applies to the "always on" video input, not the rear camera input. The LCD has an auto-dimming feature, but it's pretty limited. In other words, it dims the screen at night, but not enough. It's still too distracting to leave overnight. I've noticed that when the screen is receiving rear camera input you can press the power button to adjust the brightness, which adjusts for both inputs, but I usually just have to turn it off at night because it's too bright. The LCD screen is of excellent quality. It's sharp and bright enough that I have no problem seeing it in broad daylight. However, I have a problem with overscan. This means the video signal is cropped slightly at the top edges of the video frame, so I can't see what time it is or what input my radio is plugged into because it's cropped. Most of the time it doesn't matter as nobody cares about seeing the edge of the screen for the rear camera, but for everything else it's an issue. I haven't found a way to adjust this. INSTALLATION: Installation on my 2010 Nissan Maxima was very easy for the most part. It comes with a new cable cover so you can replace your existing one. The case that came with it looks just like my factory and fits great. After loosening the set screw on my factory mirror, it fitted perfectly into the bracket and I was able to tighten it. It comes with a fairly long detachable cable that ends with the power jack and video inputs. The cable is quite thick, so you'll probably need to remove the A-pillar cover to route it around the windshield. The power cords and video cables are long enough (probably around 5-6 feet) to reach the A-pillar and under most dashboards, but not long enough to reach my center console, so I ended up hooking up all my videos. Cables in the driver's footwell under the dashboard. So note that depending on the vehicle you may need additional cables and video cables. Overall I think it's a great thing and people always rave about it when I show it to them. I thought 4.3 inches would be too small for what I needed, but considering how close it is to your face and the fact that it's almost at eye level, it's the perfect size for pretty much anything. PROS: Looks the same as most factory rearview mirrors. High quality LCD display, bright enough for daylight use. Dual video input. The cables are long enough to be routed under the dashboard. CONS: There may be problems scanning for some video signals. Factory mirrors (mirrors tinted to avoid glare) No garage door knobs (if you use them on your current mirror)
