We switched from more expensive Miele bags to these 3M Filtrete bags and have been using them for about a year and a half. Like most people, we were trying to save a few bucks as we typically swap out the bag and filter every 6 weeks. Our Miele Olympus vacuum cleaner was only 5 years old and suddenly stopped working last week. After googling it I took it to my local Miele vacuum repair shop thinking we had a problem with a broken on/off switch. The service technician said that in over 20 years of Miele service (35+ years of vacuum cleaner repairs) he had never seen a Miele that was so dirty inside. Our motor, circuit board, and cord wrap were all fried from dust getting in from the 3M bags. He said he's seldom seen two of these components working at the same time, never three. He said that with all the pollutants those 3 meter sacks let in, they killed everything. He notes that he regularly opens 10-20 year old Mieles that looked practically new inside because they used Miele bags/filters. Miele's 7 year motor warranty has expired due to the use of third party bags. Parts and labor cost over $300 and we ended up buying a new Miele vacuum. We still have two boxes of these 3M bags/filters that I'm throwing away. I can't knowingly give them away knowing what that does to the vacuum in the long run. Pay a few euros more for Miele bags instead of a new vacuum cleaner.
