I don't write many reviews of the Revain but I felt compelled to review this recorder as many of the negative comments contain misinformation. I'm not a live streamer so I can't comment on this feature, but if you're looking for a highly reliable device that can record great quality 1080p video, look no further. Here are some important details if you want to record 1080p video: 1) A powerful processor is required if you don't have a graphics card that can use the Nvidia NVENC hardware codec. This device offloads the capture processing to your graphics card, not your processor (the default x264 codec is software controlled). The difference to my old AMD FX processor was over 80% CPU utilization with x264 and less than 15% with NVENC. 2) Audio is difficult to set up as you need to make sure that the output device, sound card and any associated recording devices installed in the audio mixer ALL match. After agonizing over crackling and audio skipping for two days, I found a message board post stating that the problem was a sample rate mismatch. Of course, once I matched ALL sample rates to the 48.0kHz output device, the sound quality was excellent. If you are not familiar with all of the sound settings in the Control Panel, it may take some time to set up. 3) Claims that you cannot achieve data transfer rates above 5MB per second are completely false. The NVENC codec allows you to set CQP, a variable bitrate setting tuned to achieve specific levels of quality. With CQP 20 and BEST QUALITY setting, the bitrate exceeds 30MB per second, which is identical to commercial Blu-ray releases. At the best CQP 20 quality, a 2-hour 1080p video clip requires approximately 12 gigabytes of disk space. 5) I'm recording to an SSD, but it's likely that a traditional hard drive won't be enough to keep up this pace. . An SSD is probably a must. 6) You can record with the Windows 10 CAMERA app, but you get MUCH better quality and infinitely more configuration options by downloading the free OBS (Open Broadcaster Software). The initial learning curve is significant, but once you figure out where the critical settings are, you can get great results. There is a lot of help on the internet. Unless you are an advanced PC user, setup issues can prevent you from seeing the best of this device. But if you're technically proficient and patient, you'll likely enjoy excellent performance after a few hours of fiddling around. Highly recommended.
