This magnetic pad and matching knee arrived and perfectly match my RAM mounting bracket. The magnet is so strong that I almost couldn't take it apart for a trial installation. The trick was to twist a little. Then I attached the taped pad to my detector and relocated it a bit. Unfortunately or forever (depending on how you look at it) the glue used is really strong. It would have taken more effort than I was willing to remove and reposition this gasket from my detector. It just stayed that way and I adjusted it with the mounting lever instead. He's not going anywhere! I can understand why they offered extra straps as they can be easily removed from the mount when rotating as you would expect. However, I agree that they are not needed in my application when everything is oriented upwind. I've driven this thing through every big bump and at high speeds on the freeway and it hasn't budged a bit! I will just leave my power cord with as little slack as possible. If it's lost he should catch it and I can stop to fix it. I suspect this will never happen, but it's a good backup just in case. Overall very impressed with this part of the RAM mounting system. It looks good, is really flexible and seems very safe for my expensive radar detection gear. It's also great value compared to every other solution I've researched. All this was at least twice as expensive as this solution.
