Okay, let's start with how the purchase began. I looked at many customer reviews of similar products as well as this one. I found this one and took a chance. The risk was worth it. I find many of the reviews disturbing and downright ignorant. I'll explain why. From the moment I brought this kettle in I was emailed. In fact, the email told me that once I received the kettle I should reply to that email. Of course I rejected the letter. I will inform you that this product was purchased with my own hard earned money. I was not given this product to write a glamorous review. So I didn't use this product once but almost 3 times a day. That's great. Yes, but it's coming. Since the thermometer stayed at 190 for a long time, the water was boiling at 212°F when the kettle was removed. I use this for french press coffee so I like it when my temp is 195F. So I did a little research because I thought maybe the timeframe had run out. Well, it's not at all. In fact, I have very accurate temperature gauges. I found it very accurate within a degree or so. That my fellows are accurate unless you work for JPL and should be even closer. For heaven's sake, I'm making coffee and I'm not sending people to Mars. It basically stayed around the 190 mark and then hit the boiling mark a minute later as it boiled. Not a big problem for me personally. For something I use as a reference that's really great because it comes preinstalled on the kettle. No need to take out the thermometer and do some cleaning. French press coffee is great, but cleaning it can become a chore on your morning commute. Anyway, I got the letter today. Someone claims to be one of the owners. And basically ask whether I like the kettle and whether it meets my requirements. That their top priority is customer satisfaction. Because I know how angry people can be because of the purchase. I informed them of the problem which I had to do to avoid unhappy customers in the future. I didn't even want to replace the thermometer to be honest. I made sure the kettle lasted a long time and a thermometer wouldn't last longer than a kettle. Now for the reviews which I found questionable. I need to let potential buyers know they think their reviews suck. I firmly believe that had this problem existed from the start, the company would have made their kettle more than happy. I got an email back after explaining that I was just notifying them of a problem with the thermometer. They admit it was defective because it shouldn't have happened and send me a new one. I had no leakage issues, the product came to me in perfect condition and everything worked amazingly well. Except for the sticky thermometer at 190. Everything perfect and I would buy this kettle again. I hope I never have to buy one for myself again. I know I would buy it again for someone as a gift. I know if some people have had the issues they claim are out of the box. This company seemed happy to fix these problems quickly. I'm giving 5 stars because a protruding thermometer guarantees nothing less. If you have a problem I recommend emailing them first before giving them a bad review. It's pathetic. Give the company a chance to solve its problems before you curse it.
