I tried to do some research on robot vacuums/mops but they are mostly categorized. So I chose the criteria of good mapping, good obstacle management and good swiping. This narrowed the choices down to two for me and I just went with the T8. I decided against buying a T8 AIVI with a camera as I don't need a photo card of my house. Too bad there's a digital map, but if you want the display to be random, you have to allow it. So this little machine has totally exceeded my expectations. First with an ad. It mapped our entire 3,000-foot house very accurately (minus one room we blocked), and for the first time it was able to shockingly vacuum the entire house on a single charge. In our house, all hardwood tiles are with area rugs. He crawls straight onto the carpet, turns on the vacuum, and then returns to the hard floor and turns off the vacuum. The second time it ran out of juice before it was done and I had to carry it back. Since then there has been a firmware update and he usually finishes the whole house and returns to his charging station with a charge. One day it wasn't quite finished and he announced he was going back to training. Impressive. The mop was trial and error. He converted the house to mopping, carefully avoiding carpets. The problem is that some mats don't leave enough hard ground for the robot to walk through, so it avoids those areas. I raised the corners of the mats to give room to get through and it works great. Keep in mind that this isn't actually "wiping" but rather dragging a wet rag across the floor. The pad coverage was ok but I decided to maximize the water and it got a lot better. The wet track behind the T8 is still about 75% of the pavement width. I monitor it and when the water tank is empty I stop the robot, refill the tank, clean the pad and let it continue. This greatly improved performance. I haven't used the app yet to tell her to repeat certain areas, but I'll experiment with that in the future. I might consider getting a shaking mop, but as long as I vacuum one day, mop the next, and then take a day off, floors actually stay pretty clean. The T8 works very well around all of our chair legs and only once got stuck behind a curtain. I'm not sure why it didn't escape the curtain, but in my opinion it's a very good performance. We have a small dog and I read that the robots don't stop and drive around him when your dog poops, but smear the accident along the way. So we did a test with a little Baby Ruth bar (hats off to Caddyshack) and the T8 rode against it and kept going. Bad news if your "accident" is real. Maybe the camera and AI version of AIVI will recognize it and bypass it, but I just don't need a camera. Overall I'm very impressed. I vacuumed the house before we had it ripped out the first time and the bin was still full (T8 runs under our beds!). When we got it up and running on the second day, it filled up again, so I'm guessing that on the first day it was so full it couldn't hold any more trash. Now I'll stop and check in in an hour. It sucks just like it wipes and still picks up residual dust and hair. I won't get a tower that empties the trash can. I think it's too high and I put the T8 under the shelf so it doesn't get in the way when not in use. If I feel like mopping isn't working well with the high water setting and blues every third day, I consider a shaker. But I have to say I'm amazed at how well it worked.
