Over the years I've sharpened just about every knife, blade and metal hardness out there. I have used everything from the finest Arkansas and Indian stones to grinding wheels and 1 inch grinders with Emery belts. For the money and for the average user, this joystick is what you need. Yes it takes some training to sharpen thin cutting edges and yes if you clog it up with dirt and grease it won't work. I inherited one 15 years ago and thought about it for a moment. Yes, the quality of leather sheaths sucks, but who cares. This is the best sharpener for the money. One review said it was worn. He must be a damn good knife sharpener. I suspect he didn't notice the originally rougher surface wearing down to a smoother, finer edge. Buy this and you won't be disappointed.
