annoying $70 for a case that isn't waterproof, shockproof? Even without a keyboard? I've flipped through this case a few times because why pay so much when I can get a plain case for $10 or even a Beetle Defender case for $25? It seemed stupid. magnets? Trick. High-quality materials? Everyone says so. 10 viewing angles? I really only need two. This case is clearly created for those who believe that the more expensive the better. No thank you. Except. When I first saw this case and read the description, it sounded cool. Not $70 cool but ok, the premise was interesting. Based on the description, it solved two of my biggest issues (durability and portability). But it was too expensive for a thrifty person, so I bought a cheaper case instead. And then when this case became too flimsy to stay upright and hold my 12.9 inch iPad, I bought a larger case at a reasonable price. And then when it got too big and heavy to carry around, I went back to the disk case. Then I remembered why I turned it down and started looking for a thin, durable case. This one has reappeared. But $70? no So I ended up with a slightly thicker folio and surprisingly it didn't get any better. Then I had another case, recommended by a friend who obviously didn't understand my problem very well. Four cases and no cigars, just a recurring disappointment. Then I added up what I paid for all those boxes and realized I'd spent more to avoid this case than it was actually worth. At this point I have made it clear that I will not give up my dream of the perfect combination of durability and mobility, so what the hell? I already bought this crap. Here's the thing: you get what you pay for. Yes, sometimes you pay for a name, but ZUGU isn't exactly Prada. I don't get style points for placing my iPad on a Starbucks table. In this case you are paying for quality. They obviously thought of all the problems that iPad cases have and created this one to solve them. In general, it's well made: the connectors are aligned, the stitching is even and looks good, threads and plastic parts don't protrude anywhere, all the details are in place and look nice in place. The flexible rubber edges make it easy to attach the iPad, but are firm enough not to pop out if you don't want to. The magnets are impressive; strong enough to hold a 12.9-inch iPad Pro on my fridge for an hour, but not so strong that it's difficult to change viewing angles. It also turns out that 10 corners is more useful than I thought; Writing, drawing, watching movies in the chair, and watching movies in bed all seem to have different ideal angles (who knew?). It is as thin and light as possible while being very protective. Some people don't like the pen holder, but I really like it. The softer fabric allows me to tuck the tip of the pen magnet underneath so I don't lose the cap, while the tip is covered with a cheap rubber boot that I tightened enough to keep in place for shipping. The pencil slot is slightly recessed, just enough to keep the pencil from moving inside the cloth case. Inserting and removing the pencil is much easier than a regular elastic holder. Probably the only two things I don't like are 1) the fact that the flip that touches my iPad's screen when it's closed also touches the surface the iPad is resting on. if open I would prefer the fabric not to be in contact with every surface I am working with. I like that it folds backwards instead of forwards, but I wish there was a simple solution that didn't involve putting up tissue paper barricades in public areas. And 2) I don't like the lack of a keyboard. It's not a design flaw, it's the only problem this case doesn't solve for me. However, I have an Arteck Ultra Slim Bluetooth keyboard ($20 for Revain, can't say enough good things about it) and thanks to the magnets, the back of the keyboard sticks to the back of this iPad *almost* like it was made for. The keys aren't protected by anything, but honestly, with how thin and light, how well this case and keyboard fit together, I have nothing to complain about. I keep it in a separate compartment of my bag and everything is fine. In general, I say: Be smarter than me. Don't buy lots of different cheap cases and settle for one solution after the other. Think about all the things you want your case to do for you, then buy the one that can do most (or all) of what you want. This will likely mean paying more in the short term, but if you read reviews on this case there's a good chance you'll understand the value of paying good money for good quality. This is one of those cases. UPDATE: Just coming back to say I still love this case. Over time, I found new ways to love him. I've had it for almost two months, which with daily use usually takes about that long to show signs of wear. Not much, but usually a little. This case is solidly built and built-in durability claims are valid in my opinion. It looks just like new (apart from the dog hairs which unfortunately cling to the soft interior - my only gripe). I almost want to buy a second one now in case they stop making them in a year or two for some reason or if I lose mine or something. This is my business for life now, folks. This is the one.
