Review on πŸ”§ Massca Plastic Welding Kit: Repair & Create with Rods, Mesh, Hot Iron Stand & Brush - DIY or Pro, Portable Use - 80W by Javarie Malick

Has given great results and saved me a lot of money!

I had to repair the black polypropylene truck rail cap tips on our 2019 F250 after realizing they were severely deformed due to improper installation of the fiberglass pad when replacing leaking weather seals. I tried to buy two new caps for almost $300 but both were currently out of stock and I had to reinstall the mattress pad. It occurred to me that there might be a way to melt the new plastic into the crumpled areas and I subsequently discovered this plastic welding kit while researching how to perform this type of repair. I was a bit concerned about the durability of the tips based on some of the reviews, but even after a few hands on scraps in the garage and actual repairs, the first tip is still in like-new condition (I think it's possible some users have accidentally bent the tip stems without giving the plastic sufficient time to completely melt the rod, and then applied too much force to the tip to disperse the plastic rod material). The repaired areas aren't perfect, but after finding a neat method of texturing the "welded" areas to match by making a silicone stamp and gently using a blow dryer from more than 2 feet away, it's hard to tell that the cap tilts have been restored! Anyone with some soldering experience, a bit of engineering and/or artistic skill, a little patience, and the willingness to spend a few minutes watching videos and practicing on regular plastic junk will likely get amazing results with this kit. It came with a replaceable tip, a rudimentary rod rest, a safety shield for filling large voids, and enough plastic rod to do more repairs than I'll ever live long enough to try. I don't know how durable it will actually be, but for those who only need to use it for minor repairs from time to time, this tool can last a few years.

Pros
  • good stuff
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
