To say the handyman had something to do is a bit lackluster. With the release of the Ryzen 3000 series, we finally have a "two horse race" between Intel and AMD. So all motherboard manufacturers had to publish something related to this event. And that's what this review is all about, MSI Meg x570 Ace. To put it simply, this motherboard has been slightly redesigned for the Ryzen 2 7nm processor. CPU vrm is 12 phases for Vcore and 2 for SoC. The controller used for VRM is IR35201. This motherboard uses 12 IR3555 power stages. Since the IR35201 only supports 8 phases, MSI has used IR3599 phase doublers for 12 phases. Soc uses 2 IR3555. The VRM is completed with 12 titanium chokes and 8 Nippon Chemicon 5k capacitors for the supply voltage. For cooling, you have two aluminum heatsinks with a heat pipe connected to the chipset heatsink for better heat dissipation. The connectivity is a bit patchy, I would have preferred two more USB and SATA ports. I think it would be better for people who have even more sata devices than m.2 devices, although you can only use 4 sata ports with 3 m.2 devices. Otherwise, you get Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0 with a PS2 connector for those legacy input devices. This definitely makes Windows 7 installation easier. For those interested in overclocking or have ever messed with the BIOS firmware, the clr-cmos/flash BIOS button is a real boon for those who don't want to remove the side panel . This feature should be standard on every motherboard and on every rear I/O. The handy button 3 is a nice addition as it makes it easy to diagnose on any dyno if your case has a faulty power/reset button or blade/screwdriver replacement. Some visual cues are also available on Ace, the Debug/EZ indicator allows for more comprehensive troubleshooting of system errors. In summary, the MSI MEg x570 Ace offers an easy and hassle-free installation that exceeds my expectations. After installing Windows 10 I went into MSI UEFI and set the negative bias to 0.100V and the memory voltage to 1.35. This gave me better temperatures and the same performance at standard voltage. As such, it's definitely a worthwhile buy for anyone looking for a solid x570 motherboard.
