I think the product and company should be given 3 chances. 1. The compass was broken, leaking and all parts were missing. 2nd came broken and without any parts 3rd I will update when it arrives wednesday or thursday. If it is broken in any way, not working or all parts are missing. 3 strikes and they're out. I contacted the company and said they should check the products before packing and shipping. We as customers have to show LITTLE RESPECT when renting. I will do a lot more research on compasses and the company that sells them before I buy them again. 'Cause I don't wanna get lost out there on the water This is my first boat and compass. UPDATE Today I received the third replacement compass. I calibrated it using my son's Boy Scout compass per the instructions. Towards north I turned the screw half a turn, then turned east and half a turn again. did this for about 15 minutes and got a result within 3 degrees of calibration. I think it's good for a $13 compass. It works well. It only has to be a few more months and I'll feel like I got my money's worth. And he will buy a compass with any other case, except plastic. My patience and ability to give the company a chance helped me. Rating changed from 1 star to 4 stars. Works as described.
