U-locks are still relatively rare in my town. Most people lock their bikes with cheap and unreliable cable locks. This simple U-lock protects your bike in the big city. Although ANY lock can be picked, I believe that you shouldn't risk buying a cheaper lock than a kryptonite lock (now this one is CHEAP, probably because the company is replacing this model with newer ones). I ride 30 km every day between school, work, supermarket, cinema etc. and so far my bike has survived. I often lock it up near subway stations or in busy squares for several hours. Choosing where to lock your bike is REALLY important. I attached the bracket to my frame. The castle rumbles with punches and cobbled streets. This is annoying at first, but better than carrying a backpack just for the castle. The only major issue with this lock is that rusting becomes an issue after a few months. I know locks are not meant to be permanently submerged in water but they are meant to be used outdoors. It is very rainy in Mexico City in the summer (it rains every day), and sometimes the lock can get stuck due to rust formed after the rain. However, a little oil helps.
