I put this on painted, unpainted doors. The surface is old and when I took it off to reposition it there were some small surface imperfections on the film so it probably happens on older surfaces. I will say that I can easily remove and rearrange the film, but my 8 pound Yorkie cannot remove them. The foil is thick enough that it does not bend, fold or pucker. I cut them into strips 4 inches wide and 10 inches long and they work great. I gave a rating of 2 because the main thing is they are advertised as not tearing the finish off but they can. Also, I wasn't sure if they stick with static electricity, but they are actually sticky due to some kind of glue.
