The scanner was received a few days ago, connected with no problems. My Windows 2000, Dell computer found it immediately and I quickly started scanning. Aside from the expected Scan Assistant software, it comes bundled with several different third-party software packages for organizing/saving images, modifying images, and so on. It received good reviews in Consumer Reports, which was my main source of reviews before purchasing. As written in CR it has quite a large footprint. I am satisfied with the scanner and the quality of the scans. The only thing that's lame about it is that the scan light is on all the time. The only way to turn it off is to turn off the scanner. I didn't see it on the scanner. I have confirmed on the Microtek website that the device is working properly. I also emailed the company asking for this. They responded by recommending that I turn off the scanner when I'm not using it to conserve the lamp. I leave my computer and all peripherals on at all times, so I have to remember to turn off the scanner when not in use. It's okay, it's just a weird constructive "feature".
