Review on ๐Ÿ’พ IODD 2541 USB 3.0 External Encrypted Hard Drive Enclosure - Virtual DVD Blu-ray ROM/VHD/Booting - SSD/HDD/2.5 - Made in Korea (1 Unit/lot) by Thomas Taylor

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The best IT device since sliced โ€‹โ€‹bread.

When I discovered this on Revain, I didn't know such a device existed! I was really excited to try this out and see if it would allow me to get rid of my USB stick folder in my portable emergency kit. This device saved me a lot of time creating and using separate USB sticks to install and restore the OS in the data center. I just have to put it in virtual CD mode and it boots like a charm but much, much faster. Encrypted mode and read-only modes are a definite plus. The screen and UI work well once you understand the menu system. I put a 1TB SSD in the unit and the temperature stays very low. I've also used this device to do a direct USB passthrough to VMs to recover broken VMs and it still works like a charm. The only downsides I've seen: - It would be nice to have an internal battery to select HD/VCD options before connecting to a server. The device is powered by the connected system, so you need to hurry up and choose what you need during BIOS boot. You can previously select options on the system that will persist, but if you use different systems you will need to pause the boot process, select options, and continue or restart the system while making your selection. replace with a new system - There is no room for a USB cable in a very nice pocket case. A small issue but it would be great to keep it with the device. Overall very impressed and a great innovation for niche needs. I'm thinking of buying another one for my junior admin.
