I think this is designed for a spray on foundation tool, as it is SO thin and watery. Airbrushing makes more sense to use it. If you have one, you should be set.I don't, so I had issues with this thin foundation. The shade was great and suited me, but I basically had to pour a bit on to the counter and use a foundation brush with a flat wedge edge to pick it up and use it. That left a lot of waste and a dirty counter. Putting it in my hand was a no-go. Too thin. When I was able to use it with the brush, it provided good coverage, and I could build up the layers to cover my discolored cheekbones. But to me it wasn't worth the hassle. If they changed the formula, I would consider retrying it. For the record, I used Smashbox Photo Finish primer (original) and also Becca primer (the purple one).
