I have 3 of these radios, one in my gym bag, one in the car so I can listen to AM when eating alone and the third as a spare. I've learned my lesson about it. A few years ago, Radio Shack made the best small AM/FM radios under their Optimus brand. In particular, they offered the option of presetting stations, and just like in a car, you could call up the desired station with a single push of a button. They had speakers so you didn't have to wear headphones when listening. You can clip the radio to your belt, carry it in your hand, or place it on a countertop or desk (try using headphones) while going about your daily activities. I've always suspected that postal workers were big fans of these pocket radios on their daily rounds. Years and a lot of abuse, they were all broken and then I couldn't get any more because for some reason Radio Shack stopped selling them and Optimus stopped making them. Opportunity" and could only get those with very primitive "presets" with the so-called "scan" "function" where you had to scan all your presets to choose another station you wanted to listen to As far as I know nobody has built such a radio since then, except in China, but they only work properly according to Chinese standards for radio stations, each station is divided by 9 digits, and instead of the US standard by 10, ,, I think That's how it works Sony solves the tuning problem with this lovely little radio with its own presets but unfortunately no speakers, so if you're walking your dog, sleeping at home or working in the garage you'll obviously have to use headphones that are uncomfortable for prolonged wear Today, with 50 different smartphone models, 40 different MP3 players and so on, you would think a manufacturer would make a small, high-quality radio with the right ing features and pre-installed speakers. I think nobody listens to the radio anymore and that's why they think there is no market. I think some big stations will develop such a radio, maybe more people will listen to it again. Yes, I have Sangean type radios with speakers, but moving on to the next station, it's beyond my understanding of 'why bother' if with a little ingenuity they could do what Optimus did in the 1980s or early 1990s could do for years. How about Sony building a slightly larger version of your nice little radio with speaker, obviously your current radio is selling well since you've been selling it for years, maybe the added speaker will sell for a lot more. With a built in speaker your radio would earn a high 5 stars and I would pay double what you are currently selling for your current product. And of course C. Crain, where have you been? C. Crain sells a nifty little radio with recording capability. They sell it for around 150.00 which is expensive but even at that price it doesn't support button customization. If that were the case, I would consider buying it.
