Although this product is advertised for a tropical habitat I decided to try it in a beginner aquarium for my fire skink pup that needs a subtropical environment. The soil had to contain moisture and moisture, but the air didn't. I mixed a 10 liter bag of Reptizoo and water with a puffed coco brick and a tuft of damp spagnum moss and it was enough to fill a 20 gallon (12 x 12 x 30) tank with about 4 inches of substrate. I dug out a skin that holds up well for the heating pad to sink into the ground under the tank. With some extra moss and foliage sprinkled on top and sprayed twice a day, the soil will stay moist and crumbly, but not wet. It doesn't need a drainage layer, but still keeps the soil moisture at a higher level, while the air is constantly around 30%. My medium light plants that prefer dry soil are doing well. The little skink seems happy with his habitat as it meets his requirements so I will probably buy this soil in bulk again and repeat the process when I move him to a 50 gallon aviary. I will then create a natural, self-sustaining, bioactive environment by adding the appropriate microflora and fauna that will sustain this soil for a very long time.
