UPDATE: Just got off the phone with Canon Tech Support. I've been told that if you can't connect the USB directly to the computer's USB port, the Canon R40 won't work. As MAC users we know that all newer MAC models don't have a USB port and if you use the USB port you will need to use an adapter. I have a MACBook Pro and am using the latest Catalina 10.15.6. The Canon R40 driver does not support the use of USB adapters. So don't waste your time and money if you don't have a USB port on your computer. I bought this R40 scanner. I downloaded the software directly from the Canon website for MAC and I keep getting the error. Removed the driver and re-downloaded the program - same result. I have downloaded many drivers over the years and this is the first time the software/driver has failed. My attempts to contact tech support have been less than helpful. I have no choice but to return the R40 scanner.
