Advantages:1. The plates get very hot, so one pass through the strand of hair will straighten them.2. I did a lot of research before purchasing and this was the only mini straightener with plates at least 1" thick that actually worked for others. The cord is no shorter than usual but not bulky (I had a smaller straightener with a thicker cord)4. Although it's not designed for curlers, I was able to curl my hair perfectly with it. Cons: 1. It makes a grinding noise when I run it through my hair (although it doesn't burn it)2. There is only one temperature setting (I don't mind that because I always want the highest setting on any rectifier). Final Thoughts: This is a mini iron so I wouldn't use it for anything other than travel; he is doing his job. very good, but not to compare with normal size. For now I'm very happy with how it works and I need it for travel so I don't regret my purchase at all. for about $10 at Ross or Walmart, I couldn't find it and didn't want to wait.
