I bought this to protect us on those late night trips to the bathroom. I actually installed it on an old antique bedside table next to the bed to avoid possible blocking of the motion sensor by a blanket or bedspread. The motion sensor doesn't work at midday when the room is at its brightest, but it does work on cloudy days or late afternoon when we're passing by. Not too annoying, and I might experiment with moving the sensor around to see if I can help, although that's fine for now. It appears at night when we get close to 6 or 8 feet and that's fine. I have a 4 foot model and will be permanently attaching it to the bottom of the bedside table if it works the way I want it to.
