This remote collar works great. We use it for our exuberant 4 month old springer spaniel puppy. We have never used the zap option, nor do we ever plan on using it. She responds well to just the sound and vibration options (we only set it at 1 or 2). She loves to pick up rocks and other things she shouldn't, and after a couple of occasions where she tried to pick them up, the low setting vibration did the trick. Sometimes she stops doing something just by seeing the controller in our hand. We don't use it on her all of the time, mainly on the important things that might harm her. Because she is a puppy, she needs to explore different things. We only use the collar when she does something that will harm her, etc.
