UPDATE; Reecom R-1630C Review - March 10, 2016 - Fort Worth, TX. Now, after almost a full year of operation and being exposed to LOTS of severe weather including tornadoes, Reecom has exceeded my expectations: none of the bad things mentioned in other reviews. I am blessed I think. I cannot recommend this product more! Read below: Reecom R-1630C Review - 5/29/15 - Fort Worth, TX I only had the R-1630C for one night and it's already a huge relief! Please allow me to explain. I had several Midland WR-120s. When one of them died of natural causes a few years later, they were so cheap that I immediately went back to Walgreens and bought a new one and threw away the old one (er, recycled). The WR-120 worked well until it died. The reason for the release of the Reecom R-1630C arose in May 2015, when Texas experienced heavy rains with thunderstorms, floods and tornadoes for more than a month. As you've seen in other reviews here, this radio has two distinct advantages over the Midland models: 1) programmable turning off of many alerts you may not want to hear, and 2) the EOS system turns off voice prompts instantly. after the warning, not five minutes later. Midland departed about every hour in the rain (mostly flood warnings) even in the middle of the night. The night I received it Midland went out 5 times due to a flood warning. But the R-1630 easily blocked any alerts I didn't need, including flood alerts because I'm on high ground. I also blocked the storm hours and warnings with no problem. I mainly use it for tornado warnings as I'm part of a tornado trail. And now I'm getting a good restful night's sleep. I've read most of the reviews and most of them were about faulty equipment and poor customer service. Then I remembered that my credit card had an extended warranty in case Reecom didn't cover the device. Good performances made me willing to take risks. Well, after a day I'm completely satisfied, but I held my breath. I will update the rating if anything changes otherwise the radio gets my 5 stars. It was also easy to program, almost intuitive. The link to look up county codes in the guide didn't work. See [.] for the correct county code. When referring to the NOAA list, remember that area code is synonymous with SAME code and channel is synonymous with frequency.
